El Museo Arqueológico Nacional es un edificio del siglo XIX, iniciado por el arquitecto Francisco Jareño y Alarcón y finalizado por Antonio Ruiz de Salces, que comparte con la Biblioteca Nacional​ y que se ubica en la calle Serrano, junto a la plaza de Colón.

El museo nació a finales del siglo XIX, con la idea de exponer los hallazgos arqueológicos, etnográficos, de artes decorativas y numismáticos dispersos en diferentes instituciones. La exposición permanente abarca un completo recorrido histórico por España, desde la Prehistoria hasta el siglo XIX.

Cuenta con excelentes colecciones de todo tipo, como la de sarcófagos y momias egipcias; artes decorativas del ámbito hispano-romano; arqueología árabe o sillería y cerámica mudéjar, entre otras. Dispone de una Biblioteca especializada en publicaciones científicas de arte, historia, arqueología y museología. Uno de sus tesoros más admirados es el busto ibero de la Dama de Elche.
